The Moment
You’re so surprisingly gentle
At this time of the night
Quietly poised in the darkness
Patiently awaiting your next prey
To finally come into your sights
Sitting perfectly straight as a statue
Refraining from sudden movement
So intensely focused on your guard
Looking for any tell-tale sign
Of fluttering creatures in the night
Moving closer to catch a glimpse
Of your smooth silhouette
Shining in the bright moonlight
I clear my sleepy eyes for a better look
To see you in all your splendor
Your beauty leaving me breathless
Not willing to waste the moment
Knowing this is the only time
You may permit my touch
Kneeling down to reach for you
I gently caress your grey tabby coat
Relishing those final minutes
Until the very next twilight
